The organisation is an internationally respected residential real estate development firm that specialises in large, complex developments with a strong emphasis on place-making, sustainable development, and community engagement. The organisation maintains 12 offices across five countries.
After exploring several other local recruitment avenues, the London-based Head Office engaged Rytons Associates based on their prior success with searches in different geographical locations.
The Initial Challenge
The organisation, as a whole and particularly this business unit, had recently undergone significant structural and cultural changes. Structurally, the business had closed some offices, leading to this business unit taking on a portfolio of large, complex, and strategically important projects from other parts of the business. This shift necessitated the recruitment of an experienced Development Director to join the business unit’s board.
The COVID-19 pandemic had prompted the business to modernise its culture, promoting a hybrid working environment and shifting from a culture of presenteeism to a more results-oriented approach. The business also redirected its focus towards community engagement and partnerships. Consequently, the traditional Development Director profile they would have previously sought no longer aligned with their needs. The incoming individual would need to be well-versed in London and UK development, possess strong management skills, and be comfortable with change management.
Methodology and Solution
Rytons Associates undertook an extensive research project that encompassed all direct competitors and consultancies where Development Directors might possess transferable skill sets. We identified hundreds of potential candidates, which were then narrowed down to a list of 100 candidates tailored to meet the specific requirements of the position. Subsequently, we initiated outreach to these candidates.
Given the organisation’s reputation for traditional work practices and culture, Rytons Associates invested considerable effort in collaborating with the business to determine the most suitable narrative to attract the right talent in the market.
Outcome
Rytons Associates conducted interviews with over 13 candidates, presenting six in a shortlist to the organisation. All shortlisted candidates were interviewed, and one candidate received an offer and was successfully placed in the business.
Following the success of this assignment, Rytons Associates was engaged on an exclusive basis to further expand the development team.
